New Brunswick rosters for 2017 Canada Games announced

FREDERICTON (GNB) – The final rosters of the 21 teams that will represent New Brunswick at the 2017 Canada Summer Games have been announced. The Games will be held in Winnipeg from July 28 to August 13.

“The Canada Games are a once in-a-lifetime experience,” said Tourism, Heritage and Culture Minister John Ames. “They provide a unique opportunity for our talented youth to compete against the very best athletes in the nation. I personally congratulate everyone on this accomplishment and wish you well as you focus on your final preparations.”

The Games are the largest multi-sport competition for young athletes in Canada and contribute to the growth of sport and recreation across the country.

“The high level of competition will provide our athletes with valuable experience that will help them immensely at future competitions,” said Nicole Smith, Team New Brunswick’s chef de mission. “I hope that their participation at the Games will allow them to achieve their goals.”

Featuring 16 sports, more than 250 events and a major cultural festival, the Games will welcome more than 4,000 athletes and coaches, as well as more than 20,000 visitors. Team New Brunswick will be comprised of about 400 participants, including athletes, coaches, managers and mission staff.

This year’s Games have special significance, as they will be held during Canada’s celebration of the 150th anniversary of Confederation. This year also marks the 50th anniversary of the Games themselves.
